LYONS – Excitement is growing for the July 18 Centurion Bike Race that will start and finish in Lyons. This will be the cycling event of the year in Colorado and a Lyons Community Foundation team is handling race registration. We still need volunteers to join us – for every 25 LCF volunteers, Centurion donates $500 to the LCF. We already have enough volunteers for our first $500, but if we get 100 volunteers, LCF would end up with $2,000.

YONS – You may have heard the exciting news that Centurion Cycling is kicking off its 2010 season with a huge bicycle ride on July 18 starting and ending in Lyons. The Lyons Community Foundation plans to be a part of it and we need your help. For every 25 to 30 LCF volunteers, Centurion will donate $500 to your favorite foundation, the LCF. Sign up today and if we could get 100 volunteers, the LCF would end up with $2,000.

LYONS – All golfers, from occasional to avid, will find something to enjoy at the Lyons Community Foundation Golf Tournament on Wednesday, May 19. Golf may be, as Mark Twain said, a “good walk spoiled,” but it will be an easy walk with friends on a spring morning and what could be better than that? Put together a foursome or sign up individually for a four-person scramble.

LYONS – Lyons is a closely knit small town but its residents face many of the same problems plaguing today’s world economy. The Lyons Community Foundation’s advisory board recognized that there was a great need in our community for a way to lend a helping hand to individuals and families with an urgent need. That’s where the Lyons Community Foundation’s Basic Needs and Emergency Fund, BN&EF, comes in.

Sometimes we are fortunate enough to be a part of something great. Two Lyons Community Foundation, LCF, grant recipients make this possible. This is one of a series of columns informing the community about the use of LCF funds from the 2008 granting cycle.

In 2008 the Lyons Community Foundation, LFC, awarded 11 grants and two of these grant recipients have made excellent progress toward their goals.
