In last month’s Mayor’s Corner column I reflected on the achievements and hard work of 2009, all in all a difficult year. It’s the beginning of 2010 and time to focus on the year ahead. For the town the biggest challenges are probably going to continue to be economic.

Julie Van Domelen was born in Aspen, is married to Joe Lekarczyk and they have a seven-year-old daughter, Maya. “I grew up in Aspen in the 70s so I have first-hand experience of when a small town loses its identity,” said Van Domelen.

For the first time in anyone’s memory, two women are running for the position of mayor of Lyons. Both Tina Schooler, 51, and Julie Van Domelen, 48, have actively worked in the community on committees, boards, commissions and at events.
