LYONS – Early in the summer the Lyons Town Board decided to enforce the two-hour time limit on parking on two blocks of Main Street from Third Avenue to Fifth Avenue.

Two enforcement officers were hired to work on Saturday and Sunday. The town chose to enforce the regulations, which have been in place for years, based on complaints from business owners mainly in the 400 block of Main who said that often parking spaces in front of their businesses were taken up by people who came to town and parked all day while taking off to hike or bicycle on trails leaving their vehicles in front of businesses and taking spaces away from legitimate downtown shoppers.

LYONS – The Lyons Town Board has been working on annexation and zoning regulations for the possible development of the eastern corridor of Lyons. The town wants to create a commercial development along the eastern corridor to increase sales and property tax revenue.

LYONS – A public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. on July 18 at the Lyons Town Hall, 423 Fifth Ave., to approve or deny medical marijuana licenses to three separate medical marijuana businesses. Two of the businesses are already in operation in town and one is a sale. All medical marijuana centers need to have both state licenses as well as local licenses from a municipality or county to operate a medical center. The state is now using the term medical marijuana centers rather than dispensaries.

LYONS –On the Saturday morning of Lyons Good Old Days, Lyons Depot Library awarded the library’s Open Book Award to Gerald A. Mack, who passed away on April 28. The ceremony took place on the lawn near the Lyons Depot Library’s book and bake sale where Gerald A. Mack always liked to pass that annual weekend, watching over the sale and sitting in his lawn chair, chatting with friends, neighbors and the rest of the Lyons community.

LYONS – Despite a certain amount of unease between Lyons and Boulder County, Lyons is forging ahead with the process of creating a new Intergovernmental Agreement, IGA, with the county. The current IGA expires in December 2012.

“We need to renew the IGA to match the current comp plan,” said Mayor Julie Van Domelen. “The current IGA is not reflective of our current comp plan.”

LYONS – After a somewhat complicated process, the Lyons Farmette, east of Lyons on Colorado Highway 66 and owned by Mike Whipp and Betsy Burton was finally annexed into the Town of Lyons.

“We started this process in January,” said Burton. “We were the first ones (to annex in under the town’s new economic incentive plan); we were the newbies. It took a while for us to get our application finished and then once that was done, it was about 90 days until the final vote with the Board of Trustees. That’s the amount of time that they said it would probably take and we were pretty much on schedule.”
