LYONS – After going over a first reading of an ordinance to amend sections of the municipal code which required all annexations over 5 acres, not owned by the town, to go to a vote of the people, the new ordinance was tabled and a public hearing to be held on January 30 was cancelled. A public input meeting will be held on the 5 acre rule, but it has not been scheduled yet.

LYONS – Jonathan Todd, one of the leaders in developing ecological waste water treatment systems and cutting edge water purification technology, toured Lyons on Oct. 17 and did a public presentation on his Eco-Machine technology for the public at the town board meeting.

Todd’s systems look like greenhouses. In Todd’s power point presentation, people were seen touring several of the facilities where it was obvious there was no odor and the places were lush with plants.

LYONS – Although Main Street Programs are not a new idea, they are gaining popularity because towns see that the programs can revitalize downtown areas, and merchants find that there is strength in numbers.

Recently Jacque Watson, Lyons economic development and community relations manager, presented some of the ideas behind the Main Street Program to the town board. A meeting to explain the concepts behind the Main Street Program will be held from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on October 27 at the town hall. The meeting is open to the public, merchants and all interested parties. An earlier meeting for stakeholders which includes downtown property owners, merchants, vendors and business people in the downtown area will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on October 27 at the town hall.

LYONS – The town board decided at a regular meeting in September to officially refer to the development area at the east end of town around the intersection of Colorado Highway 66 and U.S. Highway 36 as the Gateway Corridor, GC, rather than the former name if Commercial Eastern Corridor, CEC.

Several of the commissions in town made the recommendation to the town board. Gateway seems to reflect the image Lyons has created for itself.

LYONS – An enthusiastic group consisting of members of the Lyons Board of Trustees, Economic Development Commission, and town staff assembled at the Lyons Valley Village Common House on Second Avenue on Saturday, September 10 to discuss the economic vision for the Town of Lyons. Having reviewed the Lyons Comprehensive Plan as well as other recent planning and directional documents for the town and the region, the majority of the activities on Saturday were focused on discussing a vision for the future that would support and retain the quality of life that we have come to expect in this small town.

LYONS – Word on the street moves quickly but changes in the business community around Lyons move even more quickly. Ma’s Pizza, 430 Main St., was recently sold to Gavin Moore and Josh Baranauskas, two friends who joined forces to bring fresh produce from garden to table and potentially extraordinary pizza. They took over the pizzeria on Sept 2.
