LYONS – Jonathan Todd, one of the leaders in developing ecological waste water treatment systems and cutting edge water purification technology, toured Lyons on Oct. 17 and did a public presentation on his Eco-Machine technology for the public at the town board meeting.

Todd’s systems look like greenhouses. In Todd’s power point presentation, people were seen touring several of the facilities where it was obvious there was no odor and the places were lush with plants.

LYONS – Although it is not as high-profile as other issues, one of the main responsibilities of local government is keeping public infrastructure in good working order. Most folks don’t spend much time thinking about the condition of our water pipes (unless one breaks on your property) or the roads (unless there are big potholes on the street where you live). With keen competition for budget resources, maintenance is often neglected in favor of other budget priorities. The problem is that skimping on maintenance now ends up costing you more over the long term.

LYONS – The town board decided at a regular meeting in September to officially refer to the development area at the east end of town around the intersection of Colorado Highway 66 and U.S. Highway 36 as the Gateway Corridor, GC, rather than the former name if Commercial Eastern Corridor, CEC.

Several of the commissions in town made the recommendation to the town board. Gateway seems to reflect the image Lyons has created for itself.

LYONS – An enthusiastic group consisting of members of the Lyons Board of Trustees, Economic Development Commission, and town staff assembled at the Lyons Valley Village Common House on Second Avenue on Saturday, September 10 to discuss the economic vision for the Town of Lyons. Having reviewed the Lyons Comprehensive Plan as well as other recent planning and directional documents for the town and the region, the majority of the activities on Saturday were focused on discussing a vision for the future that would support and retain the quality of life that we have come to expect in this small town.

LYONS – Early in the summer the Lyons Town Board decided to enforce the two-hour time limit on parking on two blocks of Main Street from Third Avenue to Fifth Avenue.

Two enforcement officers were hired to work on Saturday and Sunday. The town chose to enforce the regulations, which have been in place for years, based on complaints from business owners mainly in the 400 block of Main who said that often parking spaces in front of their businesses were taken up by people who came to town and parked all day while taking off to hike or bicycle on trails leaving their vehicles in front of businesses and taking spaces away from legitimate downtown shoppers.

LYONS – After several delays, Lyons Finest Confidential Care LLC at 4071 Ute Hwy., owned by Daniel Yim from Lakewood, received a license to operate a medical marijuana center in Lyons.

The town delayed granting the license to Yim due to concerns that the business had a grow operation on the premises, which was not in compliance with current regulations, and the plants caused unpleasant odors. The town also had concerns about signage in front of the building. The owner addressed those concerns, which were largely left over from the previous owner, and the license was granted.
