LYONS – After several delays, Lyons Finest Confidential Care LLC at 4071 Ute Hwy., owned by Daniel Yim from Lakewood, received a license to operate a medical marijuana center in Lyons.

The town delayed granting the license to Yim due to concerns that the business had a grow operation on the premises, which was not in compliance with current regulations, and the plants caused unpleasant odors. The town also had concerns about signage in front of the building. The owner addressed those concerns, which were largely left over from the previous owner, and the license was granted.

What can you do with your gas hog?

DENVER – The economy continues to struggle and gas prices remain high. The cost to fill up the gas tank in an average car is over $60. If that is breaking your budget, there are two things you can do about it. You can either drive less and improve your gas mileage, or replace your car with a fuel-efficient one.

To improve your car’s gas mileage, make sure your tires are properly inflated. Underinflated tires can cost you up to two miles per gallon. Then, replace your air filter regularly and put in new spark plugs every 30,000 miles. The smoother your car runs, the better its gas mileage. Of course, the ultimate gas saver is to slow down. The faster you drive, the more gas your car will use.

LYONS – Costco is not coming to Lyons. Neither is Walmart or Furniture Warehouse. Don’t worry about the Donald, either. There will be no Trump St. Vrain down the road from Clark’s Hardware. The sky is clear. Corporate vultures do not soar over Lyons, looking for easy pickings.

Some people in Lyons, town leaders we all admire and respect, seem to have a bit of a phobia about alleged corporate buccaneers staking a position in Lyons. That fear could stall the progress Lyons has made in recent years. This article will explain one perspective about how our community can be harmed by overreaction to unnecessary fear.

LYONS – Alana Yerman has just begun a local business out of her home with hopes of opening in another location soon. She practices physical therapy, Thai massage and yoga. LYONS – On April 6 Cemex received the Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association, REA, award for energy efficiency presented in conjunction with the Northern Colorado Business Report’s conservation awards given at its Green Summit. Shane Wilson, operations manager, accepted the 2011 Poudre Valley Beyond the Limits Award for Cemex. Plant manager, Steve Goodrich was out of town.
