Lyons Recorder is sold

LYONS – Joseph Lekarczyk and Lora Gilson, under the newly formed company Lojo LLC, purchased the Lyons Recorder from Gary and Shar Wamsley on March 6. The Wamsleys are from Berthoud and previously owned the Berthoud Recorder which they shut down over a month ago due to low ad sale revenues.

LONGMONT – Officials with the St. Vrain Valley School District will hold a community forum concerning Colorado’s budget crisis and its impact on the district at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, at Altona Middle School, 4600 Clover Basin Dr., Longmont.

In November Cemex laid off 45 workers because of sluggish concrete sales. Recently the plant drew down most of its reserve, which is stored as clinker before being made into concrete. “We recalled all 45 workers,” said Steve Goodrich, plant manager. “All the workers but one returned and that person found other work.” Goodrich also said that Cemex has fired up its kiln and will replenish its reserve of clinker and make more cement.

For 20 years, the Rev. Sam Tallent, with the help of many people, has been making sure that families and seniors in need have received food baskets at Christmas time. Food drives are currently being held at both the elementary school and the junior/senior high school. Donations are appreciated.

The Lyons Town Board is still debating the green tag program for use in Lyons’ parks which would allow dogs off leash if they are trained to be under their owner’s voice command.

Ben Swigle, Division of Wildlife biologist from Fort Collins, told the Lyons Town Board that by implementing a catch-and-release program in the St. Vrain River within the town limits the town could bring more people in to Lyons to enjoy the sport of fly fishing.
