The High Street presents Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen on Friday, September 16. A man of many hats whose music combines power, volume, crispness, clarity, timing, taste, passion, and drive, Solivan is joined by Mike Munford on five-string banjo, Stefan Custodi on upright bass, Rob Ickes on dobro, and Lincoln Meyers on flat-picking guitar, in a bluegrass tour-de-force. Opening the evening is the Rorey Carroll Band, whose songs bridge American folk and alterative country/bluegrass. The Rocky Mountain Folks Festival celebrates its 21st year at the Planet Bluegrass August 19 to 21! Starting out modestly as “summit on the song” in Estes Park, the Folks Festival has grown and created its own culture and spirit, while remaining true to the initial vision of spending a glorious Colorado summer weekend celebrating stories and songs from around the musical and geographic world. This year’s celebration promises to be magical with Jackson Browne, Brandi Carlile, Sweet Honey in the Rock, the trio of Bob Weir, Chris Robinson and Jackie Greene, and many more. LYONS – The third annual Sounds of Lyons delivered a musical festival of sounds, with something to please everyone and provide a little stretch for the ears as well. Three days of happenings, which included the fusion of music making and art making, adds to the spreading reputation that Lyons is becoming a center of creative expression. In addition to the three evening programs there were three free programs: Music on Canvas, which exposed young children to the music of Beethoven while they painted; Music on the River, what’s not to like about a picnic by the river to the sounds of a live string quartet playing Schubert, Haydn, and Dvorak; and Music Espresso – well, the great Johan Sebastian Bach extolled the virtue of the edgy liquid by honoring it with a cantata in its very own name, so who could blame one for continuing such a time-honored tradition?

Lyons — Second Annual Rocky Mountain Old-Time Music Festival will be held on July 15 to 17 at Oskar Blues Grill and Brew, 303 Main St. in Lyons. The fest will showcase national and local old-time performers, square dances, jamming, workshops, and kids’ performances. Organized by the Fort Collins-based nonprofit, the Central Rockies Old-Time Music Association (CROMA), the old-time music is the pre-bluegrass, fiddle and banjo music that grew organically from rural traditions in Southern Appalachia and the Ozarks. This music traveled with settlers who came west, and subsequently took root in various mining camps and settlements throughout Colorado, Wyoming, and the mountain west.

LYONS – Attention music lovers: Sounds of Lyons is bringing music to every corner of the town on June 3, 4, and 5. Think confluence, think legendary, think Earth, topped up with imagination, river, and caffeine: that is Sounds of Lyons 2011 in a nutshell.

LYONS – Music and festival fans flock to Planet Bluegrass events in Lyons every summer. The two biggest festivals hosted on the Planet Bluegrass Ranch are the bluegrass festival RockyGrass in July and the Folks Festival in August. This year, the tickets for all Planet Bluegrass events are selling out at a record pace, before the complete musical line-ups have been announced.
