Golf fundraiser for LCF: The Lyons Community Foundation’s second annual golf tournament
Redstone Review
LYONS – All golfers, from occasional to avid, will find something to enjoy at the Lyons Community Foundation Golf Tournament on Wednesday, May 19. Golf may be, as Mark Twain said, a “good walk spoiled,” but it will be an easy walk with friends on a spring morning and what could be better than that? Put together a foursome or sign up individually for a four-person scramble.
This tournament is open to everyone and the style of play will reduce any performance anxiety. The day begins with a shotgun start, which means everyone starts at the same time on different holes and therefore everyone finishes at about the same time. Each golfer will tee off, men from the white tees, women from the red tees. Your team then decides which is the best shot and everyone else moves their ball to within a club’s length of that spot. Everyone hits again and then moves again to the best spot. Once on the green, all the balls are placed within a foot of the best ball. The team takes a single score then moves to the next tee. No one gets left behind and everyone can contribute with even one good shot.
To improve your odds even further, each player can buy a Mulligan package for $5.00. This allows you one Mulligan (a tee shot do-over) and one free throw—out of the rough or out of a sand
trap and onto the green. For another $5 per team you have the option to use a club pro’s tee shot on one hole and you get five feet of string that you can use up over the 18 holes to count close putts as if they had gone in the cup.
There will be two special prize holes—the seventh where the longest drive wins a prize and the short 16th where the closest tee shot to the pin wins a prize. Other prizes will be awarded during the luncheon that follows the match.
Breakfast burritos will be provided by City Chicks Food and Flicks and bottled water is from Steamboat Mountain Natural Foods. Local businesses are signing up for hole sponsorships and we currently have commitments from Al’s Front Range Diesel, Bank of the West, Cemex, Dan Siddall Realty, England Surveying, Lyons Dental, Steamboat Mountain Natural Foods, and Wildlife Specialties LLC.
To sign up to play, mail your check to the Lyons Community Foundation, P.O. Box 546, Lyons, 80540. The cost is $360 for a team of four or $90 for an individual, which includes green fees, breakfast, a bucket of balls at the driving range, a golf cart, lunch, and prizes. Include each golfer’s name, address, phone number, and e-mail address. Hole sponsorships are $100. All registrations are due by May 5. If you have questions about the tournament, contact Rick England at 823-5461 or via e-mail at englandsurveying@aol.com.
