LYONS – The many forms of yoga may seem confusing or intimidating to the beginning student. What is power vinyasa, or vinyasa flow? Can just anyone attend those classes?
Experienced yoga instructor Lisa Limoge, who teaches vinyasa yoga at Mayama Movement Studio located at 442 High St., assures people that everyone is welcome to her yoga classes.
“All the classes at Mayama are open to students of any ability level,” said Limoge. “The class sizes here are small and the focus is for people to work at their own level, honoring their bodies

and abilities. Mayama offers a two-week trial membership for $30. It’s an affordable way for newcomers to check out all of the classes and decide if they want to commit to a longer membership.”
Limoge encourages all levels of students to join her classes. The vinyasa style uses repetition and flows from one pose into the next pose, and the poses are linked to an individual’s breathing pattern, so the pace of the class is naturally geared to the individual practitioner’s level. “I have been teaching for over 16 years and can help a first-time yoga student get a good work out, or help a more experienced student refine a pose,” said Limoge. “Yoga can be a great benefit to people who spend a lot of time at their computers or riding bikes because the poses counteract muscle strain.”
In addition to teaching the weekly yoga classes, Limoge also does periodic yoga and pampering retreats. The retreats combine yoga, gourmet food and a spa treatment. The retreats take place in the Mayama Movement location and last around three hours.
Tiffany Monroe recently attended one of Limoge’s retreats. “I have never felt more spoiled as I did during the yoga and pampering retreat. The whole day felt like such a gift,” she said.
Limoge recognizes that each person comes to yoga for different reasons. “Some may come purely for the physical benefits of yoga, while others come as part of a yoga lifestyle,” she said. “I recognize and respect the needs of each student and work to meet those needs.”
In addition to teaching yoga, Limoge is a certified massage therapist. “My massage practice naturally took me into the yoga practice,” she said. After obtaining her yoga teaching certification, Limoge opened a successful yoga and massage studio in Burlington, Vt. Limoge moved to Lyons over a year ago and is a certified yoga instructor. She has trained in India and the United States.
Limoge grew up in a house full of sisters so feels her nurturing of the body through massage and yoga came very naturally. Growing up in a big family also taught her cooking skills which grew into a passion for creating healthy food to nourish her family, friends and the students who sign up for her yoga and pampering retreats.
