Lyons Recorder is sold
LYONS – Joseph Lekarczyk and Lora Gilson, under the newly formed company Lojo LLC, purchased the Lyons Recorder from Gary and Shar Wamsley on March 6. The Wamsleys are from Berthoud and previously owned the Berthoud Recorder which they shut down over a month ago due to low ad sale revenues. Referring to the sale of the Lyons Recorder Wamsley said, “We are glad that the paper was sold to Joseph and Lora. We just wanted Lyons to continue to have a weekly newspaper.” The Wamsleys are planning to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on May 2. Then they are flying to Travis Air Force Base in California for Gary’s reunion with the 84th Military Air Lift Squadron from the Viet Nam War.
“I’m looking forward to getting back to my garden. It’s been two and a half years since I’ve been in it. Gary and I are really looking forward to focusing on our website The Berthoud Recorder,” said Shar Wamsley.
The Lyons Recorder will continue to operate as the Lyons Recorder with the same publication date coming out on Thursday each week. Gilson and Lekarczyk are equal partners in the LLC. They were both doing similar jobs at the Lyons Recorder before they purchased the paper. Gilson will be the graphic designer doing page layout and ad design. “Joseph and I feel like we are doing really well right now and we’re looking forward to owning the paper,” said Lora Gilson. “We work really well together. It’s going to be a lot of work but it is also going to be an adventure.”
Lekarczyk will be the editor and principal news reporter. “This is a mom and pop operation,” he said. “Lora is the mom and I’m the pop.” The paper will be black and white and the number of pages will be tied to ad sales. Lekarczyk said that both he and Gilson each spoke to their respective spouses late in February before deciding to purchase the newspaper. Gilson’s husband has taken on the job of being the new web page designer for the Lyons Recorder and has updated their website which will be interactive. Lekarczyk’s wife Julie Van Domelen is busy being the mayor of Lyons.
