The Community Foundation Board gets to work
Redstone Review
LYONS – The Lyons Community Foundation’s (LCF) 2010 Advisory Board has gotten right to work, picking up where the 2009 board left off. Both the new and continuing board members are enthusiastic about fulfilling the mission of the LCF to encourage positive change for the greater Lyons area.
To start, Connie Eyster, Clark Hodge, Roger Flynn, and Pat Journeay are organizing our Third Annual Mid-Winter Celebration and Social. This free, casual event will give you the chance to learn more about LCF and to connect with the LCF Board. Please join us at the Oskar Blues Barn at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 11 for coffee, dessert, and a cash bar. Entertainment will be provided by Lyons’s own Off the Tracks. Come celebrate Lyons’s culture of giving and community spirit in a fun and festive atmosphere with old and new friends.
The 2010 LCF Advisory Board got started in late December by identifying the key tasks that need to be completed to fulfill our mission. Each board member volunteered for those things that fit their background and interests. This approach will get everyone involved, spread out the workload, and allow LCF to make the largest possible impact on the Lyons area.
Here are just a few of the things the Advisory Board members will be working on in 2010:
The second annual LCF Golf Tournament is scheduled for May 19, 2010. Rick England is organizing this despite having gone off the advisory board.

The 2009 LCF grant recipients are using their funding to make a difference in Lyons. LCF grants support diverse projects in our community, such as music events, seniors, students at both the elementary and middle/senior high schools, wildlife, town beautification, youth baseball, and history. The Basic Needs and Emergency Fund assists those in our community who need a helping hand.
This spring, in coordination with the Lyons Middle/Senior High School, we will be requesting applications for the LCF Scholarship in Memory of Steve Ralston. Information on this scholarship will be sent to students this spring.
Mystie Brackett is coordinating LCF’s involvement with the Sounds of Lyons festival on June 5 and 6, 2010. This will include a silent auction featuring items related to music and the arts in Lyons with proceeds going to LCF. Contact Mystie if you would like to donate something to the auction.
One of the most wonderful parts of LCF is the ability to award grants based on a community review process. Jayne Rhode will head-up the grant review process this year and we expect to have applications available late this spring.
We are exploring the possibility of a new LCF summer event – stay tuned on this one.
Finally, we once again look forward to our Gala and Grants Dinner, which is expected to be held in November of 2010.
Please feel free to contact any of our 2010 Advisory Board Members about LCF:
