Lyons and the Community Foundation are growing together
Redstone Review
LYONS – Things are changing in Lyons with Main Street renovations with new business, or previous businesses becoming new, expanding or relocating. It is exciting. And the Lyons Community Foundation also has its upcoming changes with six new advisory board members. Welcome to Andrew Biel, Clark Hodge, Gabry Cornell, Jayne Rhode, Pat Journeay and Roger Flynn as new incoming LCF Advisory Board members for 2010.
Roger Flynn is the Founding Director and Managing Attorney of the Western Mining Action Project in Lyons, a non-profit public interest law firm specializing in mining, public land, and environmental law.

Pat Journeay has lived in Lyons for over 25 years and is a former St. Vrain School District teacher. She is the Lyons local Stampin’Up demonstrator and has immersed herself in Lyons as volunteer and supporter, including participation in such organizations as Generationally Active People, the Lyons Area Chamber of Commerce, and LCF.
Jayne Rhode is the branch manager for Bank of the West and also serves on the Lyons Area Chamber of Commerce board. She volunteered for the 9 Health Fair, and serves on the LCF Gifts Committee.
Gabry Cornell is co-owner of Lyons ReRuns which is a LCF Founding Contributor. She and Ellen Hine started this business and decided to give back to the community so the proceeds from this thrift shop go to LCF. This little shop on Main Street includes the LCF name and logo on its front window.
Clark Hodge has lived in the Lyons area for the past 18 years has volunteered for several organizations including the boy scouts, Planet Bluegrass and as a board member for the Lyons Fire Protection District. He is the owner of StorageSwitch, LLC, a data storage company.
Andrew Biel lives just outside of Lyons. He is the author of the acclaimed book Trail Guide to the Body from Books of Discovery and is a licensed massage therapist serving on the faculty of Boulder College of Massage Therapy and Ashmead College.
Bill Palmer will serve as the chairperson for LCF starting January 2010; continuing advisory board members include Connie Eyster, Mystie Brackett and Nancy Hammans.
In 2008, LCF granted $25,500 to area nonprofit organizations and in 2009, LCF granted $29,100. This was possible because of the generosity of Lyons area residents. Your support is so appreciated and helpful to this community.
The Lyons Community Foundation recently distributed a year-end letter. Did you get one? If not and if you are interested in receiving this, please contact LCF, Christy Crosser or Bill Palmer: Crosser at 303-823-5991 or Christy@LyonsCF.com and Palmer at 303-823-8284 or Bill@LyonsCF.com.
Would you consider an upgrade? If you are one of the many people who have donated in any amount less than $100, would you consider pledging this same amount for the next two years to become a Mortar Supporter? Mortar Supporters are donors of any amount less than $100 and pledge for at least two additional years.
The Lyons Community Foundation has a pledge campaign that recognizes and honors the stone industry that built Lyons. If you have donated $100 or more, please consider pledging for a few more years and become a Sustaining Stone Contributor at the Blue Top, Pink Stone or Red Sandstone levels. Your support is appreciated and your pledge helps LCF plan for future granting and growing the endowed fund.
This is my last article for the Redstone Review as the co-chair for the Lyons Community Foundation Advisory Board. Thanks to Susan McCann for her support of LCF and giving us the space each month to present information to all of you about LCF. It has been an honor and pleasure to serve Lyons in this position since late 2007. It has been challenging to start a community foundation and very rewarding. This community is very generous and supportive and my best wishes go out to the new advisory board. Thank you for your support to LCF to make it a successful organization.
The Lyons Community Foundation exists to improve the quality of life, build a culture of giving and encourage positive change for the Greater Lyons Area. For more information about LCF please visit their website at www.LyonsCF.com.
