April/May 2009 Briefs
Dog days
LYONS – The Lyons Town Board is still debating the green tag program for use in Lyons’ parks which would allow dogs off leash if they are trained to be under their owner’s voice command. Boulder County Sheriff’s Officer Sgt. Kevin Parker told the town board that not enough officers are available for the sheriff’s department to patrol the parks on a regular basis. He also said that the green tag program would make it is impossible for officers to tell if a dog is legally or illegally off leash. Parks and Recreation director David Cosgrove said that most of the Lyons’ dog owners are responsible, but people with dogs use the parks in town from all over the area and the people who are not Lyons residents are unlikely to know about or follow the leash laws especially when the laws are difficult to enforce. The town board recently passed a leash law saying that all dogs need to be on leash in the parks. Trustee Kathy Carroll seemed surprised when Sgt. Parker explained that even that law was difficult to enforce in the parks. The town does have a dog park with river across located near the McConnell Bridge across from the U Pump It gas station on Colorado Highway 66. The only places where the green tag program is being used currently are in Boulder County Open Space. No city parks in Boulder have approved the green tag program.

In Bow Hunting Alaska, you’ll join Marv as he prepares for an Alaskan hunting trip to pursue the elusive caribou. Learn how to ready your self both physically and mentally for what will be one of the most awe-inspiring trips of a lifetime. Because of weight limitations on the small bush planes used in Alaska, it is imperative to know how to pack light and right.
Bow Hunting Alaska – A Traditional Bow Hunter’s How-to Guide is a primer for getting the most out of your Alaskan wilderness adventure. DVDs cost $17.95, shipping included in the U.S. To order, visit readmondbrothers.com.
Ron and Stephen Readmond grew up in Colorado’s north central foothills on a ranch in Lyons at the base of Rocky Mountain National Park. Both brothers hunted at an early age, fished (brown trout, brook trout, rainbow trout), and played high school sports (football, baseball). After attending Lyons High School Ron and Stephen split paths and headed in opposite directions. Stephen landed in Hollywood and Ron began guiding elk hunters into the wilderness on horseback.
