Where in the world is Lyons?
LYONS – Where in the world is Lyons? The complexity of the internet as an information source can be overwhelming at times. Yet, for the Lyons community and especially businesses who advertise on the Lyons Area Chamber of Commerce Website, it’s proving to be a tool that truly levels the playing field in terms of national and even international exposure of our community and its resources.
Based on statistics recently compiled by webmaster Dennis Vanatta, 29,991 Chamber website pages were viewed during the month of July. Of these, 79 percent originated from the U.S. and the remaining 21 percent were from 24 other countries! The Netherlands leads the foreign destinations with over 3,180 page views. Other European countries and Australia were also well-represented. Pages receiving in excess of 700 hits included lodging, the calendar, dining, the directory, and real estate services. Members are encouraged to take advantage of the website services the Chamber provides. As a real estate professional, I can personally attest to the value of lead generation and the return on investment as a result of my Chamber website presence.
Thanks go out to Lyons Dental for hosting our July 25 social and to the Stone Cup, Lyons Fitness, Redstone Cyclery, Lyons Physical Therapy and Virtual CXO for hosting our August 8 social. Lyons and surrounding area business owners and interested community members are cordially invited to the next meeting and social scheduled for Wednesday, September 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., hosted by Mark Webber, ERA Tradewinds Real Estate and City Chicks Food and Flicks. Please check the website for the location. Non-Chamber members are asked to provide a donation.
The Chamber welcomes new members Peter Ashley with Farmer’s Insurance and Roger Flynn and Jeff Parsons with the Western Mining Action Project. Your trusty writer would also like to acknowledge, on behalf of our membership, the hard work and dedication of our current board of directors, lead by President Gary LaFever, Vice- President Laurie Kennedy, Treasurer and Community Liaison Jayne Rhode, Secretary Janice Gavan, Community Service Committee Chairman and Out-going Secretary Carol Conigliaro, Webmaster Dennis Vanatta, Community Definition and Outreach Committee Chairman John King, Town Board Liaison Brian Donnell, and Board Members-at-large: Chuck Keim, Jennifer White, and John O’Brien. Time just doesn’t allow us to be involved in every exciting project and event within our town (darn!), but there are many opportunities to share ideas, meet like-minded folks, and support one another. Take a minute this week to talk to a Chamber member and find out one thing you can do to contribute to our organization. Then look for how this investment results in a positive impact on your own life or business.
Hey new residents, don’t be shy! Go to the Chamber’s website, LyonsFirst.com, and register for a Welcome Basket or call 303-823- 5215 and leave your name, mailing and physical address, phone, and email. Welcome Baskets will be distributed at our monthly Chamber socials, giving you still another opportunity to meet new people in town. Anyone can also use the site to nominate someone who deserves a little extra appreciation for their community service. Your nominee may have an opportunity to receive an Appreciation Basket. Chamber members sponsor these baskets as a way of providing a special gift, discount, or just share information about their products or services. Special thanks to the Lyons United Methodist Church, Bank of the West, and Planet Bluegrass who have been the major sponsors of the baskets in the past. Chamber members interested in sponsoring the next round of baskets should leave a message for Carol Conigliaro at 303-823-5215.
