LYONS – The Rock n’ River Resort, located at 16858 N. St. Vrain Dr. just west of Lyons, has new owners. Jay and Elaine Hodge recently purchased the resort from Guy Gibson. The Gibsons owned and operated the resort for about 19 years. The Hodges came to Lyons from western Pennsylvania. They lived in Greenville where Jay worked for a while in heavy industry and most recently in human resources.

LYONS – Economic sustainability has been a core objective of town policies for the last several years, stemming from the realization that a vibrant Lyons relies on a sustainable economic base. The 2010 Comprehensive Plan highlighted the importance of economic sustainability in terms of generating sufficient revenue to support town infrastructure and services and promoting a business-friendly environment that encourages commercial and job growth according to community members’ vision and desires. A core part of the strategy to achieve this was to coordinate with local landowners including the City of Longmont and developers to encourage the annexation and development of properties along the eastern Highway 36 corridor.

LYONS – The psychological phenomenon dubbed “impostor syndrome” is where some people cannot positively ascribe their own accomplishments. Tina Fey and Maya Angelou, noted public achievers, admit feeling like imposters, convinced they are frauds that fail to deserve their highly acclaimed success.

LYONS – My grandmother used to say, “What won’t they think of next?” A few months ago, I was extremely glad that “they” had thought of just what I needed, and organized it and brought it right to me: Home Health Care. “They” turned out to be Estes Park Home Health Care. I was so grateful and impressed that I wanted to share the news, in case others, like me, might not know about this program.

LYONS –The RockyGrass Bluegrass Festival, a three-day mostly bluegrass festival by Planet Bluegrass at the Planet Bluegrass Ranch in Lyons, focused last year on many of the founding legends of bluegrass. This year for its 41st anniversary, RockyGrass shifts to the collaborative nature of bluegrass with numerous unusual or even only-at-RockyGrass pairings.

The High Street Concert Series presents the Taarka Quartet and New Time Ensemble on Saturday, March 16. Described by SF Weekly as a “collision of Django Reinhardt and David Grisman,” Taarka is a new acoustic super-group presenting masterfully deep Americana and gypsy jazz string band music. Led by the husband-and-wife team of mandolinist David Pelta-Tiller and violinist Enion Pelta-Tiller, Taarka is celebrating the release of its latest recording, Adventures in Vagabondia.

LYONS – This Valentine’s Day, as happens every year, I face the same question: What gifts shall I give my loved ones to properly express the deep and abiding love I have for them?

The one to my wife should be romantic, to my daughter appropriately daddy-ish, even though she’s in her ‘30s, to my granddaughter cute and funny, if possible, or grandfatherly doting. The cards sometimes are difficult to find, but there are enough places to look that ensure near hits, if not direct ones, in finding just the right expressions of love. What is much more difficult is finding just the right Valentine gifts for those women. I

MACAU – The Keymaster: A Story of Patrick Olwell, a new film about a master flute maker and his instruments by Jem Moore from Lyons, and Blayne Chastain, will premiere at the Boedecker Theater at the Dairy Center for the Arts, 2590 Walnut St., Boulder, at 8 p.m. on February 28. A second showing will take place at the Lyons Farmette on March 1. Master flute maker Patrick Olwell will be present for the premiere. Admission is $20.
